Play the Save Our Greenbelt Community Lottery — and Help Protect Our Villages

Communities across Conisbrough, Clifton, Micklebring, Braithwell, Firsby, Hooton Roberts and Ravenfield have united to fight one of the most significant infrastructure threats our area has ever faced.

The Whitestone Solar Farm — a proposed 750-megawatt National Infrastructure Project — would industrialise nearly 2,000 hectares of Green Belt land stretching across our villages. That’s an area larger than 2,700 football pitches, permanently transformed by solar panels, access roads, substations and cabling.

We are challenging this at the highest level. Our community lottery helps fund the expert planning, legal and environmental advice we need to fight back — and win.

Every ticket is a vote for our villages. Every pound raised keeps our communities’ voices in the room.

Protect our heritage, our wildlife, and the green spaces that mean so much to our community.

Every ticket purchased helps ensure that local people have a strong, informed voice in decisions that could permanently change our landscape.

A Threat On An Industrial Scale.

The Whitestone Solar Farm application is a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project, examined by the Planning Inspectorate and decided by Government ministers.

The proposed development would affect land across seven communities:

  • Clifton and Ravenfield — open farmland and green corridors at the heart of village life
  • Micklebring and Braithwell — rural landscape and historic field patterns under direct threat
  • Hooton Roberts and Firsby — ancient parkland and the setting of a cherished village under pressure
  • Conisbrough Parks — nationally important Scheduled Ancient Monument land, including the site of a Romano-British Villa and the ancient Deer Parks of Conisbrough Castle

Our Environmental Statement analysis has identified serious failures in how heritage, biodiversity, landscape, flooding and agricultural land have been assessed. The consultation process itself excluded many of our residents — charging £750 for a printed copy of the application documents.

This is a fight that demands professional expertise. And that costs money.

Conisbrough Parks is a place of national historic importance — and it is not the only thing at risk

The ancient Deer Parks of Conisbrough Castle, dating back to the 11th century, and the site of a remarkably well-preserved Romano-British Villa — both protected as a Scheduled Ancient Monument — sit within the proposed development zone. Their setting and integrity are under direct threat.

But this goes far beyond one site. The footpaths, bridleways, green lanes and open fields that residents of Conisbrough, Clifton, Micklebring, Braithwell, Firsby, Hooton Roberts and Ravenfield walk, ride and cycle every day form the living landscape we are fighting to protect. The wellbeing of our communities — and the character of our villages — depends on it.

This is where the community lottery helps.

Funds raised will be used to:

  • Obtain professional planning and environmental advice
  • Commission expert heritage, biodiversity and landscape reports
  • Challenge the adequacy of the applicant’s Environmental Statement
  • Secure legal representation and advocacy at the Planning Inquiry
  • Ensure every affected village has a strong, informed voice in the process

By supporting the lottery, you are helping communities from Conisbrough, Clifton, Micklebring, Braithwell, Firsby, Hooton Roberts and Ravenfield stand together and be heard.

Together, we can protect our Green Belt, our heritage and our villages for future generations.

Thank you for standing with us.
